Response to "The USA Patriot Act: A Sketch"
This article summarized the details of the USA Patriot Act, an act that allows the government to listen in and watch, or "spy", on daily conversations of those in America. This enraged many people as they felt their lives were no longer considered private. I empathize with the feelings of the outraged citizens of America because I see this as a huge breach of personal privacy. Even though people may or may not be doing anything wrong, just knowing that they are constantly being watched is unsettling. For those who are actually committing crimes, however, I see this as an improvement in the government's desire to catch the wrongdoers and make our country a safer place. I understand that it is difficult to find a middle ground, yet it would be incredibly understandable for all involved if some sort of compromise was created.
Question: Is there a compromise possible for those who want more privacy and the government to get the security information that they need?
