Response #6: "Dole The USA Patriot Act A Sketch"
Reading this article made me question the vailidity of the USA Patriot Act, and question whether it is even constitutional or not to spy on these so called "terrorists." The word "terrorist" by itself is ambiguous in nature. Anyone can be considered a "terrorist" in the Government's eyes, since the word is so loosely defined. So theoretically, if a person were to somehow break the law by committing an action like downloading an MP3, does that make them a terrorist too? So would the Patriot Act take effect on them? I understand that the original intent of the Patriot Act is to calm down the hysteria and protect people from the actions of 9/11, but the fine print in the Patriot Act goes too far to the point where one can easily question their Fourth Amendment rights, and if they are still even being protected under the constitution because of this act. This act goes to the extremes in order to "protect" the country from these so called "terrorists" by inevitably taking advantage of innocent people too and violating their rights due to this act. The question of whether this Act is constitutional or not is debatable, but it is for sure violating our rights and privacy as citizens of the United States.
Q: What defines a "terrorist" in the Patriot Act?
