Patriot Act & Asian Americans

The Patriot Act was made into law in 2001 after the September attacks of the twin towers. The act allowed the government to keep surveillance on those that were suspicious of illegal activity that involved threats against the country. The act provided a justification for the government to track suspicious individuals which was controversial over the violation of the privacy of American citizens. How does the Act relate to Asian Americans? The Patriot Act affects Asian Americans because of racial profiling, and can sometimes result in deportation. The case of Wen Ho Lee is an example of racial profiling and also demonstrates a violation of his privacy rights. Lee was wrongly accused of providing secrets about the U.S nuclear arsenal to China. The government could not find evidence so they violated his privacy rights by tracking his records and accessing private data to try to obtain evidence to prove what they were accusing.

When will racial profiling stop being an issue?
