Cambodian Deportation

Don Kaing
Section A01
Response #7: "I am a Man With a Heart"

Upon reading this article, I stumbled a bit and thought to myself, "Wait. I am pretty much reading about myself! My parents also faced the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge and fled to the United States in order to give the future generations an education and better future. This guy is totally me." He went to school in Hayward just like me. But the only difference was that he went through the wrong path, despite his parent's traditional Cambodian teaching methods. His family and my family are similar. My immediate family immigrated from Cambodia and hold Buddhist morals and values. Throughout my whole life, they have taught and instilled good morals and values in me, so that I wouldn't succumb to the life that Andrew Thi went through. It is all about will power. When you are poor, money can be a huge thing in one's life. But the key to success isn't through inflicting violence and suffering on others, but to be a good person and go through life helping others and helping yourself get an education. This is the path I took. Andrew took the other path, but I'm glad he learned his lesson, because I know some people who took the wrong path and are now facing charges. Hopefully these individuals will learn like Andrew and convert to the good side. All human beings have some sort of good in them. One just has to find it.

Question: Is it even legal or just to deport legal US Citizens/Immigrants?
