By the look of the UC Davis Profile, one can see the attempts of the university to appeal to prospective students but as well as prospective investors. As Professor Valverde mentioned in class it is as if the campus is becoming more of a strip mall, and as an employee for the Annual Fund of UC Davis I can attest to this. For after receiving millions in donations from private corporations and investors we see major unnecessary "improvements" and reconstructions happening especially in the Memorial Union and all around campus. But we don't necessarily see how these funds are going back to student resources or improvements to lecture halls and technologies. So one can find it rather odd how the university boasts of its diversity, groundbreaking research and opportunities to appeal for funds yet not use those funds in return to those boasted about to ensure the funds. Hmmm...
In addition to this, the diversity the university claims to have... it really is not that diverse. With 39% Asian Americans and 29% White with other groups ranging from 17% to 1%, this hardly could be described as diverse.
With all this said, how extensive can we see exploitation of students by the university occur?
