A Tale of Two Campuses

Tony Pham
Week 4

Initially, I was shocked at how differently UC Davis and UC Berkeley handled the Occupy protest. UC Berkeley announced the Middle Class Access Plan while UC Davis focused on the problems and damages the protesters created in Dutton Hall. After reading the article again, I came to agree with UC Davis's response. UC Davis's announcement made protesters accountable for their actions and will prevent future damages. I believe that people have the right to organize and protest peacefully, but damaging property through graffiti and wine stains is crossing the line. I think UC Davis could have done better by also announcing the plan in conjunction with the damages, to improve student relations and show that the universities are headed in the right direction.

Why were the pictures of the damages taken down?
