Affirmative action in Higher education

Jason Wong
Section 2
Week 3

After reading "How Higher Education Diversity Benefits our Communities", questions about affirmative action pops into mind like the ethics and how it is implemented in a system. From my understand, Prop 209 prohibited race-conscious programs aimed towards equal opportunity for work and education. The idea seems well, however like the article mentions, by creating more "equal opportunity", it neglects the circumstances of certain individuals therefore, the notion of equal opportunity is false. On paper it sounds good but in reality it emulates a sort of class system where the privileged have greater opportunities where as the less fortunate who are working hard for the same opportunity may have some restrictions preventing them for going any farther.
I actually did not know about Prop 209 until reading the article and its interesting to see the statistics about AAPI before and after Prop 209. My question would be, how might this information differ between different ethnicity?
