API Social Movements Interest Groups

For over 150 years, Asian Americans have battled extreme inequality, racial discrimination and violence. Coalitions and organizations sprang up and formed to fend against unjust treatment and policies. Banded together, Asian Americans have come a long way in changing how they are treated and defined by society. Many organizations were formed through ethnic-specific issues but evolved into one that was panethnic because of similar interests. Organizations that encompassed multiple ethnicities were more effective as it allowed for a stronger voice. Although Asian ethnicities differ vastly from one another in religion, culture, and language, coming together allows the minority to have a more formidable presence.


Are there disadvantages to the term "Asian American"
