Response to Women of Color in Academia Manifesto
Right at the start of the article I had a sense of what the
main idea would be about. It was going to talk about how women were treated or
seen as an inferior human being compared to their male counterparts. After reading
the article I was only partially correct, it did mention that women were
treated unfairly, but it was not to an extent of somewhat being oppressed in a
way.
The article was mentioning how women of color in the
academic world are seen as incompetent. The definition of incompetent is “not
having or showing the necessary skills to do something successfully.” Knowing this
by everyone in the world of academia, anyone should be able to determine who is
capable at doing their job whether it is a male or female. In the article it
tells a different story. It explains how women are targets of discrimination
just because they are of the other gender.
In the journey is getting an advance degree there are
standards that everyone should meet in order to be able to earn that degree. That
is what everyone thinks how it actually happens. If you were to get the
necessary grades and pass the exams that you should be awarded with the proper
reward and then get a job. But it is shocking that in this time of age women
are still not seen as equals. Women earned the right to vote back in 1920 and
almost 100 years later they are still being held back. I personally do not see
why this issue still exists. Thinking about 100 years of advancement of the
world that this issue should eventually die out and there would be equality for
all.
I personally think that the time of women equality in the
world is coming soon. We just need more time to pass by and have the older people
that are currently running the system retire and have new fresh faces fixing
the corrupt system.
Question: When do you think true equality would exist? 2025? 2035?
