The cost of Prop 209

Stephen Fan
Section A02
Response #3 - "Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in California: How Higher Education Diversity Benefits Our Communities"

The article "Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in California" serves as a policy report demonstrating the detrimental effects of proposition 209 upon the standings of Asian Americans in college diversity.  Proposition 209 banned the policy known as affirmative action in which special means and opportunities were enacted and provided in order to favor members of disadvantaged groups who normally suffer from discrimination.  This policy report serves to dispel notions spread by the media that Proposition 209 helps the Asian American community in terms of college success and diversity.  In fact Asian Americans face considerably more amounts of disadvantages in the educational field.  The notion that Asian Americans are a model minority has been construed to levels of being a harmful myth.

Question: What are the full effects of proposition 209, not only the harmful ones presented by this policy report.  In short, what are both sides of the story here?
