America's Racial Discrimination: The Same Struggles of All

Jennifer Le
Section A01
Week 3: "Race Still Matters" Infographic

In the multicultural diversity that makes up the mosaic that is the American society, it is hard to face the harsh truth that racism continues to act as a corrosive agent that creates social and economic disparities for many minorities. And while many would argue that the the status of the "model-minority" that is placed upon Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders make them exempt from the struggles of Hispanics and African-Americans, the infographic image titled "Race Still Matters" shows we still face the harsh reality of racism. Asian-Americans still have to fight a problematic society that invest more money in white student than minorities,  that limits equal opportunities for higher education, sees higher rates of high school drops outs, and so on. The Asian-American struggle for equal opportunity in America is a battle that is waged amongst all minorities, and while we many not face as severe discrimination as our other minority counterparts, our social problems and hopes of achieving the American Dream is the same.

This leads me to the question that in a time when Asian-Americans face the same racial barriers, is affirmative actions that works against AAPI really the solution?
