Section 1
Response 5: From Saigon to Baghdad
4/27/14
The Vietnam War is infamous for impacting America and its
soldiers with traumatic experiences. However, this event has helped the United
States understand what position it holds among other nations. The US should not
think of itself as a top dog with the obligation to fight in Vietnam, nor
should it think that it is capable of winning against a third world nation. It
is revealed that no matter what state a nation is in, no nation is superior due
to status. Through its failures, the US has been reorganizing its foreign
policy to prevent anymore situations such as the Vietnam War. Yet as new occurrences
arise, such as the War on Terror, US politicians fail to learn from their
lessons and involve themselves in war. Do politicians consider the lessons of
previous wars?
