Before I started reading this article, I have already found my sympathy to the people who are currently going through family issues with taking care of elderly by reading the title. I have not gone through the process, yet, I have heard my parents' friends talking about every once awhile. A concept based on Confucian philosophy, which children carry the responsibility of taking care of elderly under any kinds of circumstances, has deeply planted into Asian's culture and tradition is the past thousands of years. Taking care of parents is a really important mission, however, it has also caused many problems among family members nowadays. Since children are inherited for this 'job'; regardless of the language barrier, sending their parents to nursing homes is unacceptable in Asian culture. Sometimes this involved kids quitting their jobs in order to take care of their parent, but at the same time it becomes really hard to have only one person to financially support the entire family. And this situation is potentially causing major problems in the future since the population of people over 65 years old are increasing dramatically since 2000.
Question: How can this issue potentially affect our economy in the next 20 years?
