It's very disheartening to read that there's no meritocracy in academia. Like that would be the one place you would expect it. If your ideas are solid and your work is good, then you'll be treated well in a place all about intellectual advancement. Work Politics can be very tricky and the fact that people who look.like you, or who would go through the same wrongs as you do would try to crush you in order to advance themselves is kind of scary. Gosh, this is like a little primer on how we might get f'd over later in life for simply being born with our gender/ethnicity. So... how long until and how do we eradicated this?
