Week 1
Response to “Asian Americans and
Pacific Islanders Census 2010”
I
grew up in a community that was dominantly filled with Hispanic and African demographic.
There were very few Asian and Caucasians in my area. I just thought that there
weren't that many Asians in California but when I arrived in Davis I was culturally
shocked to how many undergrad and grad students were Asian. The schools I
attended back at home there were about less than twelve percent students that
were Asian. And If I have read that California had the largest Asian population
in the 2010 census before I attended Davis it would've been somewhat hard to
believe. Another thing that caught my attention was 40.6 million as the
projected number of U.S residents that will identify themselves as Asian.
Question: Just what does this say about Asians? Would be still be considered a minority by then? What new issues will we have to face?
