Asians Vs. College

Response #3 - Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in California: How Higher Education Diversity Benefits Our Communities

Affirmative action benefits Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and also higher public education system. Having diversity in higher education systems is beneficial for college students because it lowers racism creating a better environment for everyone. However, affirmative action is like a double edge sword which affects everyone else. A drastic increase in the acceptance of AAPI creates higher standards in the education system because of the model minority myth. I can relate because I am not the typical Asian American that gets straight A’s. I am one of those students that have to rely on the class average to pass the course. In conclusion, affirmative action has its pros and cons which accepts more AAPI, but sets the standards of the education system at a much higher level than before.

Do you think affirmative action has fulfilled its purpose and how does it affect you in any way?
