Response #1 - Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders Census 2010
Ever since kindergarten and through my high school years, most of my friends were Asian. I was born and raised in a very diverse community. The schools I went to consists of races such as Hispanics, African Americans, but mostly Asians. From the statistics found in the article, “Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders Census 2010”, it becomes relevant to my situation. The only reason to these huge numbers of Asian residence has to be because of migration. The migrations have become a huge impact to my life because I grew up learning more about my culture and other diverse Asian cultures. I ended up gaining no knowledge about the lives and hardships of others races. My personality changed based on the people I was exposed to. I eventually began to hang out with other people that weren’t Asian and saw that I had to act or talk differently towards them. An example would be that I can’t talk about Filipino food with my Mexican friends because they never had it. Maybe if the whole migration didn’t happen and the schools weren’t impacted with Asians, then I would have had some experience in how I should act and talk towards other groups.
From these statistics, has it ever become a huge impact to your life? If yes, then how? If not, then how might it change?
