Week 8 Toby Lee A03

Toby Lee Section A03 Week 8

After reading “What Asian Americans Are Bring to Campus Movements for Racial Justice”, written by Mark Tseng Putterman, I thought back to a time when I had the same question. That question that I had was why had racism always showed how the whites treated the blacks. Why was it that there aren’t Asians protesting against racism? Was it only African Americans that faced racism? Even growing up in a community where there are not majority groups, there is still racism. I was born in raised in San Francisco, and I have seen many different ethnic groups bully asian students just because of their asian descent. I have heard many stories from friends that went to public schools that bullies always picked fights with Asians because we can’t fight back. I used to think that San Francisco was a welcoming and inviting community because of the amount of ethnic groups living there. It seems that even though we have progressed so far, we still regress to a time where different groups are fighting because of their differences. There are still many cases where people still face bullies because of where they come from. I was told by many Chinese immigrants that we still get laughed at because of our English accent. We are never applauded for what we have accomplished but are put down for what we have missed and not achieved.

How can we get people to realize that Asians face the same amount of racism as other minority groups?
