Week 9
ASA 002
Section A01
The article “Why Ferguson Matters
to Asian Americans” explain how anti-black movement relates to Asian Americans
in the United States. Mike Brown was killed by a police officer Darren Wilson in
Ferguson, which incited anti-black racism protest. The author discusses two reasons
why it matters to Asian American. First, it reminds the author about the humiliating
history of Korea, and how Korean people protest against the Japanese colonization
in the last century. The Ferguson incident has triggered the internal rage that
against this inhuman murder of black people. Secondly, As the American society normalized
the death of black people. It also places a threat for Asian Americans. If Asian
American outlives the model minority stereotype, they are very likely to be racially
discriminated. In the end, the author advocates the sodality to against racism white
supremacy. [1]
After reading this article, I have
learned that the tragedy happened in Ferguson is a very negative sign for Asian
Americans. Although they are not the main target of white supremacists, they do
suffer racial discrimination if they are not fall into the model minority stereotype.
Therefore, all the people from different racial background should stand together
to against any kinds of racial discrimination, and it is the biggest obstacle for
the advancement of human society.
Question:
What is the most effective way to
end racial discrimination?
How can we prevent the unethical murdering
of black people from happening again?
