WEEK 10-Megan Tang

Megan Tang
A02

After reading "The Time to Fight Is Now," Kieu-Linh Caroline Valverde and Wei Ming Dariotis talks about the injustice Asian American women face. It reminded me of a character in a show I started to watch. During the Thanksgiving break, I started watching a new television series called "Because It's My First Life." In this show, there is a supporting character that is outcasted in the workplace since she is the only women holding a high position in the company. The other people in the company who hold the other positions such as CEO and director are men. In the male-dominated company, I felt so bad for the supporting character because she had little to no say in the company meetings. She was excluded from work parties and even sexually harassed both physically and verbally by her male coworkers. Throughout the show, the character is nervous of calling in a sick day because the males would consider her weak for being on her "period" or contemplating of having a say in what is right. It took her a while in order to have the confidence to stand up for herself. I noticed that it all starts by taking a stand, but when is that stand vital? Why do women need to take a stand in the first place? Why can't we all start as equal?

Question: Why is there labels to people of color, asian males, asian females, "model minority?"
