For this week's reading, "The Time to Fight Is Now" by Kieu-Linh Caroline Valverde and Wei Ming Dariotis, I am quite taken aback by how discrimination is not so far-fetched after all. I always knew that discrimination exists, but I never personally knew anyone that became a target for discrimination. In the article, the authors mainly focused on discrimination against Asian American women in the field of academia, and subtly empowered the women to encourage them to stand up for their rights. With the abuse of power and rights in the field of academia, I think that it is fundamental for people, especially the minority group, to stand up and voice out their rights because only then will the whole corrupt system will change and hopefully shall the marginalization too.
Question: What are the chances for the whole academia system to change if the minority groups were to voice out their rights?
