Week 9 Anthony Canavesio A02

Anthony Canavesio
This weeks article “Why Ferguson Matters to Asian Americans” by Soya Jung examines how the death of Michael Brown was relevant to the Asian American community. Jung examines how often Asian Americans might feel that injustices like police brutality to the black community might not be directly relevant to a majority of Asian Americans because they don’t face police brutality. However she counterclaims this and in a sense makes a plea for Asian Americans to stand up as the injustices other minorities face stems from the same problem racism. If the Asian American stands quite and allows white supremacy to occur, then it is bound to eventually affect them in someway to. Jung examines how we must work past the current color classification system our society has right now. This is a very strong idea because if groups of people of color worked together they alone could take down white supremacy. But racial classification and dividedness in my opinion is the strongest weapon white supremacy has towards people of color as if divided by race they alone could not stand up against white supremacy. This goes to show in my opinion why Jung claiming asian americans aiding African Americans in their fight for equality is such an important pressing issue, it would in return aid in their social equality and thus help them move away from the idea of the model minority. Although there may not be Asian American equality groups, there are groups which target white supremacy and it is necessary for those affected by white supremacy to aid these groups to suppress it.

My question from this week is how can we rally all people facing white supremacy together to suppress it and become one unit?
