Week9 - Yuchen Qu

Yuchen Qu
Section A03
Week 9

After checking the titles of this week’s readings, "Why Ferguson Matters to Asian Americans" raised my interest. The article starts with the murder that a black teenager Mike Brown was shot by the by Ferguson police officer and it became a national political crisis because causes the anti-black racism in the society. Then the question in the first paragraph made me pay attention to the idea of this article, “Does Ferguson matter to Asian Americans?”. This murder raised the public attention about black people’s life, but how about those of Asian Americans? Thinking about last week’s article, Asian Americans can’t fit properly in the mainstream and their place is ambiguous in all the races. However, I want to say that this situation has to be improved. Ferguson is important to Asian Americans because they were part of the “ASIANS4BLACKLIVES” movement, and this proves that Asian Americans pay attention to black people, and they support and protect each other. I still remember I watched an interview on YouTube after the event that an 69-year-old Asian American doctor was rudely dragged off the plane in April,2017. One of the guests in the interview said that these kinds of unfair events would definitely happen to Asian Americans again, but how could Asian Americans bring the society’s attention that Asian life matters?

Question:
Is there a better way that Asian Americans can prove they are not the minority among all the races anymore and should be treated equally?
