This week, I read “Pain + Love= Growth: The labor of Pinayist Pedagogical Praxis” by Melissa-Ann Nievera-Lozano. Two authors told stories about six Pinary scholar activists’ stories and introduced Pinary culture. These six scholars are immigrants, and in the reading, it described their family situation. Due to the color of skin and gender, they were discriminated in the school and had more difficulties in their academic career. In order to improve the academic situation for women in color, they need to come together, have voices, and bravely fight for equal the stage and environment in academia. Only when more and more women in color fight against the inequality and bias, their status can be improved. In the 21st century, women fight for equal wage and status in every field. I think academia cannot be left. There are so many talented colored women who are knowledgeable greatly contribute to academia. However, their effort used to be underestimated or even ignored. Thus, they cannot get equal salary and rewards as white men. If the unequal environment do not improve, there will be fewer and fewer colored women participate in academic teaching and research. I think higher education must have different voices from different ethics, which promotes the diversity of academia.
