This week’s reading “Conclusion: Academic Awaken: Power, Resistance, and Being Woke” by Valverde and Dariotis focused on “turning research into action and the creation of movements for change through which academia may become a place of truth seeking and equitable teaching and learning.” This chapter concludes some individuals’ stories about fighting for equity in academia. The reason that minorities fight is that because the system is not fair, we do not only fight for ourselves, and we fight for our languages, students, families and our future. The conclusion also includes some successful cases that represents hope. In order to get more success, it is necessary to directly confront the inequality issues in the academic system, instead of avoiding issues. Then more people should come together and fight for equal opportunities in the academia. When more people stand out and have voices, as minorities, we will have more power to fight.

This book is a good supplementary reading of lectures. From this ten-week journey, I know many things that I did not know, and many things are totally different from I used to imagen. My question is: how to let more people realized the struggle situation of colored women in academia and let them realize the importance of equality in academia?
