In this week’s reading, Academics Awaken: Power, Resistance, and Being Woke by Kieu Linh Caroline Valverde and Wei Ming Dariotis, the authors made conclusions of all the fights that Asian Americans have fought in the academia and give tips of how to take actions to make academia to become a place of truth seeking and equitable teaching and learning. “We define being woke as a series of flexible processes of information gathering and learned experiences that lead to the shocking realization that even the systems of education that we believe will liberate us are actually designed to oppress us.” The authors give definitions of "being woke" and encourage us to stand against oppression and give suggestions on how to fight against injustice in the academia. After reading all the previous chapters, I get to know the truth of social engineering and also get to realize that education may be a tool to oppress the public. Moreover, these successful cases and special experiences of Asian Americans can be models for other fights against injustice in the whole society. Recently, there are a lot of protests happening these days, people are standing up against oppression. Under such circumstances the society is filled with chaos. I Relate these days’ protests with the fights of Asian Americans, what are the similarities and differences between those fights?
