In the reading “Academics Awaken: Power, Resistance, and Being Woke” which is the last part of the book Fight the Tower, the author Kieu Linh Caroline Valverde and Wei Ming Dariotis called on women of color in academia become “woke” and stand up to fight for their rights. They explained that “Being woke means refusing to accept the definition of power as corrupt domination and instead redefining power as liberation.” There are several stages of awakening. Awareness is not in a split second. It takes some time to aware of the injustice around us, especially miseducation. When we are aware of the injustice, we need to question it and leave out of our comfort zone to reveal and fight against it. In this book, I have met a lot of brave Asian American scholars who dare to reveal the dark side of academia and injustice they have suffered. With their passionate words, I could feel their power and determination to fight for equal rights in academia. They shared their experience to help more people “being woke”. Then the group to fight against social injustice will increase its scale and more people can employ their inner power, imagination, hope, and passion to fight against injustice institutions and exploitation of women of color in academia.
Question: What is the scale of Asian Amerian scholars being woke?
