ASA 2 A04
Week 10 Blog
Finally reaching the end of the quarter, I really enjoyed reading "Conclusion: Academics Awaken: Power, Resistance, and Being Woke" by the authors Kieu Linh Caroline Valverde and Wei Min Dariotis. This quarter we've been talking about the roles Asian American's have in academia and fighting for justice within the academic system. This chapter gives a good conclusion to the book, as well as this ASA 2 course. The chapter reminds the readers the reason why we fight and the reason we need to make our voices heard. There needs to be a change in the academic system where institutions and the administrations support their students and faculty members to get the education they need and deserve. We are reminded that we are not fighting for just ourselves, but for the our community too. Becoming woke to all the issues that are in academia can help those who may not know what is happening within the education system. What can we do as students to continue to advocate for change? How can we stand together, especially during this time now? We need to stand in solidarity and fight the injustices, not just in academia and higher education, but the injustices that we face in this country such as discrimination and racism. Being silent will do no harm, but it will also do nothing. As a community, using our voice and standing up for what is right, we can push for change.
