Yi Qian ASA2 A04 Week 9

In the article “Academic Symbiosis: A Manifesto on Tenure and Promotion in Asian American Studies”, it introduced an idea of academic symbiosis to pursue equality and fair treatment in the academic profession. Just like how the author defines academic symbiosis, it is that “seeing ourselves as part of a collective learning and teaching community rather than as individual academics competing against one another for limited resources and rare recognition.” When did the higher power and status become the object of competition in academia? In this field, the exchange of knowledge and the collision of wisdom are actually the most precious.
The academic (Death) Star system that the author talked about in the article makes me have more thinking of today's academic environment. The system mainly says the faculty who are in the highest “Star” position use the power to control others and use the fear of others to secure their position. This is a horrible phenomenon. Without collaboration and support, how can progress and development be achieved? Everyone deserves to be treated fairly. We should resist oppressive power and try to create a healthier environment in academia.
My question is how can we let “academic symbiosis” be realized in academia?
