week 9
In this week's reading named ": Academic Symbiosis: A manifesto on Tenure and Promotion in Asian American Studies" by Wei Ming Dariotis, the author announces the situation of Asian American women scholars in the academia should be changed --- it should be an "academia symbiosis" in the academic world. Asian Americans deserve the same access to education and other related services compared to all other races. It is said that Asian Americans have to fight for their place in society and still demand the provision of similar education services. The provision of education should take place with the aim of achieving equality.
The current situation, however, it exactly opposite to how it should be---It's very hard for Asian American women scholars to get promotions. "Tenure and promotion are posited as the reward for decades for individualized academic preparation and labor, with academic freedom attached to the idea of tenure symbolizing the height of intellectual capital." (Dariotis,2020) So here is the question---what could we help building academia symbiosis in the higher education institution in this hard environment where not everyone wants to redesign the entire hierarchical structure of academia.
