In this week's reading " Academic Symbiosis: A manifesto on Tenure and Promotion in Asian American Studies",Wei Ming Dariotis states that Asian American women in academia should be an academic symbiosis and Asian Americans should be treated the same as to other races.
This reading reminds me of an act called ACA-5; According to the California Constitution, “The State shall not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting.” ACA-5 is short for Assembly Constitutional Amendment No. 5., which is calling on the ban on the previous anti-discrimination Clauses under the California Constitution. If ACA-5 is approved, it means that the sates could discriminate or make their admission decision based on race, color, set, ethnicity, or national origin. If this discrimination exists, then a certain group would have to obtain a higher score for tests, and better performance to get into the same school as other racial groups do. The picture below shows how many people have voted No for ACA5.
I found this ACA5 being ridiculous because advocating for equality has been here for decades, and people are trying really hard to get rid of the discrimination based one the race or gender; I can't see why some officials want to encourage this discrimination. Do they do this so that they can get votes from certain ethnic groups?
