In this week’s reading, “Mothering is Liberation: Giving Birth to Alagaan Pedagogy (Pedagogy of care)” by Professor Tintiangco-Cubales. At first I was confused to what the title meant, turns out it is a tagalog word meaning to care for, cherish, foster and to provide asylum and pedagogy is a philosophy of education informed by positionalities and standpoints. After knowing what it meant, I understand that it is very fitting for it to be named this way. I think any job that requires a lot of interaction with other people will entail emotional labour. It is human nature, to want to empathize and care for others. But sadly, it is not recognized enough and is undervalued. Leading people to be overworked and stretched too thin. On top of the gender stereotype, that surround working mothers she has to deal with the added pressure of being a woman of color in her workplace.
Question: How to further support working mothers?
