Week 9 blog
According to the week 9 reading material“ A Manifesto on Tenure and Promotion in Asian American Study’’ written by WEI MING DARIOTIS. According to the article, the author stated that “This chapter posits that once the battles for justice are won, academia should ultimately be about resisting pain, domination, and shaming as the norms of academia, while creating a system of supportive rather than oppressive power as academic symbiosis.’’ I agree with the author’s views. Also, I noticed that failing to gain tenure is, too often, the end of an academic life (even now, as tenure is being degraded). So, we put our all toward this goal and in so doing often damage our personal relationships and physical and mental health.(Wei Ming Daritotis stated).
In my opinion, I think in academic fields everyone should help and communicate with each other. We should not turn academia into pain, domination, and shaming. Also, gaining life-time tenure should not be the final goal for a professor. I think the goal for excellent professors should have lots of research experience. My question for this reading is how can we build a better academic field.
