Zitong Wang, Week 3

We watch the whole recording of The pepper spray incident that happened in Davis campus. I think it is necessary as a person who was not aware of the movement to watch the recording of the whole event. Before taking this course, I have never heard of this incident even during the application process when I thought I have deeply researched this university. I was not surprised that the school wanted to pay and scrub the reference off the internet because anyone would link violence oppress to these unforgettable scenes.

On the other hand, this actually proves the huge influence of media propaganda has on any organization or anyone’s reputation. To be specific, the Asian American population has a long history of not being treated equally and yet being publicized as “the model minority”. I was unaware of the significance of that on the Asian American community because it has never just occurred to me in my mind. When my ta brought it up in the discussion session this week, I researched it on the internet. I saw many cases of pressured teenagers and injustice treatments because of the stereotypes. The picture below showed a group of Japanese Americans at the internment during World War II. (Leon, 2020)

I believe in order to know the reason behind the injustice in the country, we have to understand the history of Asian-American. The sterotypes make it less important to look at individuals’ characteristics and ignore the racism effect it has on the whole population.
My question is, why is this injustice not widely brought up as the next generations grow up?
