When I first watched the video of the Ethnic Studie demonstrations, hunger strikes and student arrests roiled in UCB Berkeley in 1999, I was surprised by how hard the process of establishing and sustaining ethnic studies is at one of the nation's leading universities. Thanks to those brave students and related faculty pitched battle against the university administration, people in educational institutions today are able to announce critical analysis about the Ethnic Studies so that the public has the chance to have a better and fair understanding of the race relationship and history. As I know, at the time the strick happened which is 1999, not like 1969’s strick, most racism would not speak out racial discrimination, but it was still showing up potentially( in the academic field, it might show up by reducing or even canceling the ethnic study class, or limited the positions for students of color in the faculty and student center). However, these students did not choose to grin but protest for the pure academic atmosphere that Ethnic Studie deserved. I would say this is a campaign calling for an end to discrimination in the academic field.
