This week, I read the article "The Cost of Speaking." I finally recognize that there are a lot of unfairness we have to face and unequal situation we have to deal with. W.P in her author mentions that she applies promotion but the president denies it because of her race and gender. She decides not to keep silence and stands out speaking for her equal rights. Then she files the complaint to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission EEOC to reclaim her equal rights as other races and genders. It is impressive since Asian Americans are taught to be silent and seldom speaking for themselves. Unfortunately, the presidents hires five top lawyers and asks her to pay a lot of money. The result is disastrous and the cost of speaking is high. The University takes away her equal rights and asks her to be silent because of her race and gender.
This reminds me of the power of the masses. She is the only one who tries to fight against the authority and injustice. If there are other people who have faced the same problem as her trying to help her and also persuade equality, the University and the society would have to attach importance to this injustice behavior. Even though the cost of speaking is high, we can share the cost as a large racial group.
