Week 5

Based on one of this weekly readings, "An Offering: Healing the Wounds and Ruptures of Graduate School", I learned a new concept when considering race or gender discrimination, "mental (emotional) prison". This analogy effectively describes the situation when people are facing discriminations. For instances, the author once was trapped into the academic discrimination. The whole environment around her was against her to achieve her academic success. Therefore, in that negative environment, it was most likely she cannot work at her highest capacity. Also, her mind would be seriously influenced, which might become a wall locks her inside and makes her suffering
As a result, free our mind is the first step of liberating our body. When fight against the discrimination or unfair situation in the society, it is crucial to have an open and independent mind. Not only because it can help us identify the discrimination, but because it can help us to win the fight against it. However, since metal prison is not a vital substance for most of people, it brings me a question: how should we make our "prison break" ?
