Tanvi Chopra ASA2 A01 Week 5

Tanvi Chopra
ASA2 - A01
Week 5

This week's reading was "Precariously Positioned: Asian American Women Students Negotiating Power in Academia" and "An Offering: Healing the Wounds and Ruptures of Graduate School". All through these reading and the previous readings in this class, it is highlighted why it is important to speak up and fight for what you deserve. Additionally, how important it is that future generations, future activists also know how to fight for their rights. I was impressed that the writer herself was a student activist and did not give up. It saddens me at the same time that this kind of discrimination exists everywhere and she had to fight against the university.

Gender discrimination has existed for as long as we know. Men were considered the stronger ones and the leaders of the house in earlier times. Even today, many households have similar beliefs. In an office setting, male coworkers get paid more than their female coworkers. The reading also stated that men are considered leaders and the women did not fight against it. My Question: How will we bring about change if we do not speak up against it? How can we eliminate discrimination in Universities?
