Week5 blog
I noticed some differences between the previous articles I read this week's reading "Asian American Women Students' Negotiating Power in Academia" by Shannon Deloso. The previous articles we read used to be presenting the fact of the inequity status of Asian American women in academia and unite the Asian Americans to fight for what they deserve, however, what Shannon wrote was all about the striving of protecting the ethnic studies.
I was pretty touched by the change of her mind. Even though Deloso's own experienced life "in a male-dominated childhood", she still found her way in learning the ethnic studies, giving her confidence and curiosity, perhaps also a sense of belonging. Receiving feedback from President Wong is not sincere from her perspective, but she started to make some changes and grew stronger. I really appreciate her not only because she is a woman, but a woman with dignity and fight for her ethnicity as a whole. By the way, her leadership truly impressed me.
There are still some Asian American males and females who dare not stand up and fight due to the culture learned rules of being quiet and obedient. But I am hoping to see more and more "Delosos" to grow up from learning the ethnic studies and become as confident as her.
