The
part “the cost of speaking” really makes me feel uncomfortable. It is so
heartbreaking that it said no matter what you do you are going to die young. Whether
you choose “speaking” or “silence”, you are still going to suffer. Because of discrimination,
Asian Americans suffer from defaming, stress, sleep deprivation, and loss of jobs. Why is that? Is that only because of the race or what people called color
difference? We know that this is wrong and unfair. So, we should be united to
raise the voice. It is better to speak up for what you experience rather than
silently suffer from unfair treatment. Even though the result is not guaranteed
to win, it still worth trying. When she performed much better than the white
male colleague, she still is rejected for promotion while the white male colleague
successfully promoted. She raises her voice, but many people ask her not to do
so because they all fail before. But if she follows the flow, unfair treatment
to Asian Americans will never be noticed by the public and will never be
addressed. When people enter academia, they might assume that academia is
purely about academics. But it shows that it is not. When they speak up against
the unfair treatment, they might question their own decision. But we should
also remember, if we speak up, it is for ourselves, and for those who don’t
have the courage to speak up and silently suffered.
Question:
I was thinking is the discrimination
purely because you are more likely to keep silent? Or it just because of they
want to show their group is more superior and intentionally suppress other
groups?
