The majority of people who have been discriminated against would not choose to revolt. Instead, they are unconfident about themselves and submit to humiliation for a peaceful life. However, the improvement of society and civilization is pushed by revolutionary so that someone should stand out to advocate themselves to fight back the unfair treatment. In the first article, we read this week, the author grew up in an environment which made her become a quiet and passive girl. When she was young, she never thought about changing it after seeing so many discriminating treatments to females. After going to college, she realized that there are many opportunities for her to express herself to the public and make other people hear her voice. She gradually becomes a student leader and student activist who encourage more Asian American students and faculties to know that they still have lots of power to advocate for themselves and methods to protect themselves in universities. Her purpose is already her benefits but focus on the broader social circumstances.
After reading her experiences, I realize that education is a powerful weapon for females to find their positions in this society. Universities provide an abundance of resources to students, so students should catch up with each opportunity to explore their potentials and evoke their abilities. Standing out from the familiar community they growing up at and coming to a new environment surrounded by people from various cultural backgrounds, students see this world more objectively. Nevertheless, the university could be a useful database, but it is never protection for students and faculties. There are strong discrimination and unfair treatment in academia or in universities. The second article, basically, talks about the author's struggles and difficulties she met while she was a graduate student. She warns all of the students who have experienced discrimination to disclose those events to the public in order to eliminate this serious issue.
