In this week’s reading, it includes issues of discrimination in academia on Asian Americans. I am surprised that the discrimination had taken place in some famous universities in the world, like USC. USC had violated its stipulations and hiring contracts, so white female faculties will have a larger chance to win the reward than Asian female faculties. I do not know that there is serious discrimination on gender and race in such a famous academic organization. This leads me to worry about people who are in normal academic organizations. Those people may face a harsher situation and their stories won’t be spread out to the public. We need to help everyone in society to make sure people who are in a small place can have a fair shake. Moreover, in the article, “Killing Machine: Exposing the Health Threats to Asian American Women Scholars in Academia”, it states that the problem is not only about racism but also sexism. Asian American women face an unfair shake in the academic area. Many Asian women professors are in a tough working environment. The situation of their efforts and works that can’t be seen by the public depressed people and make them suffer both physically and mentally. Although things are getting better and better, we need to make sure that everyone can be heard, so that no one will face unfair shakes.
Question: Is there a relationship between gender and race in the unfair shake to Asian Americans?
