Week 4

In this week's reading named "Killing Machine: Exposing the Health Threats to Asian American Women Scholars in Academia.", it mainly talked about rising numbers of serious health problems faced by Asian American women scholars in academia. According to the survey in the article, "Almost two-thirds of the sample (61.5 percent) stated that they had experienced or developed specifically long-term physical or psychological health issues after starting graduate school" It indicates the academia still holds an adverse attitude to the Asian American women. Their burden is so heavy that it has even exacerbated health problems for 69.5% of women who work in academia.
Because racism and sexism to Asian American women have already rooted in American's minds for many years, it's harder for them to get admitted and respected. Most of the time, Asian American women choose to stay silent and keep working hard. Many Americans think they are perceived as non-confrontational and don't know how to stand up for themselves. In this way, they keep mistreating and disrespecting to the Asian American women. In their stereotypes, professors or assistant professors can't be young Asian American women. It's really unfair to whether a person qualified for the job or not only depends on her age and race. The example of the  assistant professor receiving death warnings in the articles show how disrespectful for people in academia to Asian American women. People should work together to solve the racism problem like that.
Problem: How can we erase the stereotypes in people's mind to Asian American women scholars and help them get respected in academia?
