Yidan Xu ASA 002 A04 Week 3

The reading for this week is “The Time to Fight is Now” Asian American Women, Academia’s Socially Engineered 'Privileged Oppressed,’ Go Rogue” (Valverde & Dariotis, 2019) which the professor showed me a brief historical background of Asian American and how did the movement call ''Fight the Tower" started. In terms of social life, social contact, education, entertainment, economy and so on, the discrimination against Asians in American society is quite serious.
At the beginning of this chapter, the author and her team were ready to do a presentation but everything stops due to the lawsuit.
The fact in this education field is that academic in the US is controlled by a few wealth. Humans in ''social engineering" were treated like animals or machines and it is highly used by and on government, corporations and private groups. People put a stereotype on Asian Americans. They think Asian American women are good at suppressing, isolating and dividing groups. They think Asian American women have no desire or ability and if they complain about their workplace, people think it is unbelievable and ignored them most of the time.
Because of these thoughts, Asian American women can't do anything because they are all risky since how people see them. Which I think is really unfair because they actually made a unique and powerful contribution to the empowerment of faculty.
Luckily, growing movement of scholars speaking up against injustice in academics. The movement "Fight the Tower" created many ways to challenge injustice.
