The article I read this week is "Fight the Tower: Introduction. “The Time to Fight Is Now”: Asian American Women, Academia’s Socially Engineered “Privileged Oppressed.” Similar to the article, there are a lot of discrimination and unfair things happen on Asian American. Especially for women, they are seen as the weak gender and weak race. Because of Asian culture, women are taught to be quiet, so they seldom speak up for themselves.“One of the earliest, most effective, and longest lasting of these tactics involves creating hierarchical differences—for example, through race, gender, and culture.” In this week's class, professor raised one argument, Asian American are the same not because they come from Asia, and not because they look similar, it is more like a political issue and culture thing, other ethnicity groups are treating them the same, so they are defined as Asian American. In my opinion, Asian women are very smart and inner-directed no matter which Asian countries they come from. But in the United States, they have to adopt to this culture and start speaking up for themselves. People will know they are strong and should not be treated differently in this country.
