This coronavirus has sent the world into chaos. Everyone’s daily lives have been affected, many are experiencing financial hardships and some must face the grief of losing a loved one. Many people are complaining over on social media on how the virus has affected their lives. Celebrities and “privileged people” have received backlash, from getting special treatments in terms of testing and still complaining of being stuck at home despite having very large spaces. We could say Asian Americans are facing the impact from increasing racism. But we cannot say who have it worst, instead of comparing we should focus on helping each other through these very difficult times. And do our part on helping as much as we can, and if that means staying home then so be it. In challenging times like this we should remind ourselves of things we are grateful for and cherish the things that we do have. We should not succumb to panic and fear, sometimes people make irrational decisions in this state of mind.
When reading the fight the tower, I was impressed and inspired by her strong will and staying kind in the midst of discrimination. We may not be able to control other people’s action but we can control how we react to it. From this course, I expect to learn more about the culture of Asian Americans and how it differs from me, an Indonesian.
Question: Do you think things can go back to “normal” after the coronavirus pandemic has died down?
