Frank Sang, A04, week3

When time goes back far, our society was full of power handled by men, not women. Under that situation, women did not have many rights to manage lives, and sometimes, they even had to follow the majority in order to survive. Fortunately, feminism is coming to our life, and more and more people start to consider how the woman could behave equally as a man.

From the reading, ""Introduction."The Time to Fight Is Now": Asian American Women, Academia's Socially Engineered "Privileged Oppressed, " Go Rogue." by Linh Caroline Valverde and Wei Ming Dariotis, we realize that the discrimination about woman especially in the academic field becomes a serious problem nowadays, and many Asian American female scholars are facing difficulties because the stereotype that the female will put more effort on work with less speaking makes women become a vulnerable group, and they will not only face the academic challenge but also social pressure. However, the interesting thing is that this condition does not happen a lot in my country. In China, girls indeed are expected to achieve higher grades but it is not an assumption usually, and even more, success in academics is not even the goal that the society sets to the female. Thus, they do not face that much pressure in academic, the stereotype about how they should behave still exists.

My question: is it a true problem or hard difficulty that this kind of stereotype exists?
