Yuqi Hu A04 Week 4

After reading the chapter "Who Killed Soek-Fang Sim?" I am very shocked by the discrimination of the author. He was a college professor with very low pay at $2 for a month during 2004 even though he was "the most published author with the most innovative teaching record." The college deducted $40000 from his money award in Bush foundation. At that time, he can only cover his and his son's living expenses. In my perspective, the college professor is paid because of their knowledge, and that is a well-paid position. According to the chart below, we can see that during the year 2005, the average salary of full-time and part-time employees at all college and university teachers is $4,638. I cannot imagine how can the author and his son lived with $2 a month. A teacher is a person that everyone should be respectful to, but his colleagues and people who know him pretended to be a stranger to him. He was alone and helpless because he cannot afford the fee for hiring a lawyer to help him. He said he was in the same situation with Soek Fang, alone and helpless.  Even though they already did better than many of their colleagues, no one recognized and accepted their effort. Everyone was laughing at them because of their accent. They were at the bottom of academia even though they were professors.

Question: How can the author overcome that situation since it was a challenge in both spiritual and monetary?
