In the reading, Kieu Linh Caroline Valverde and Wei Ming Dariotis utilize many historical events and personal experiences to reflect the term “Privileged Oppressed” in the social engineering and academia. They stated that “Asian American women are seen by academic administrators as ideal representations of diversity because of assumptions that they will present exotic faces while remaining silent.” Asian Americans are stereotyped as hardworking contributors and quiet learners. I heard some rumors explain that in order to perform better in school rankings, some universities and colleges expand the number of international students, and Asian Americans to improve the diversity of the school. With these assumptions, the administrators expect them to stay silence when their works got underestimated and their tenures got failed. How can they let the injustice happen and choose to do nothing to stop the situation? Then, the strong Asian American women move to the next stage of “Wake moment”. They are vulnerable compared to white men with power at this stage. However, they choose to stay together and fight back. The statistics in the readings show the injustice between Asian American women and white men, the existence of concentration camps for Japanese is also quite unbelievable for a civilized world. At the end of the reading, Kieu Linh Caroline Valverde and Wei Ming Dariotis reinforce the movement of “fight the tower” and encourage Asian Americans to fight against oppression academia area and the society. My question is that how do Asian American women make their voice heard under such strong oppression?
