While it does seem positive, it brings to light more problems. In my experience, this myth sets some expectations I have to overcome. In academic studies, we are expected to work harder than our peers and do not gain as much support as other troubled minorities. Being a model minority also means being pitted against others and this can hurt the relationship with the other communities.
This mindset also created a society against Asian Americans. They are accused of stealing jobs and experience anti-Asian immigration laws. As time goes on, however, the once quiet Asian Americans began to let their voices out to fight against these laws and for student diversity. Hopefully, the model minority myth will be seen as just a myth overall.
